I watched A. Benjamin's video on the math curriculum. I think the message he is saying is that the math curriculum is outdated. He mentions the fact that we have gone from analogue to digital and in math we need to move away from teaching calculus to teaching statitics.
I took current trends in education last qt. I know I am getting a bit off track, but after reading some of how our schools were created after the industry model and to produce perfect workers, the use of IQ testing for grouping etc. My point here is that I think that many things in education might need to be revamped. I am not sure how to do this, but we are no longer in the mode of going from an agrarian society to an industrial one. How would you describe what our nation is going through now.
Back to the math video. I do not know much about stats, other than he mentioned probability, understanding data, the use of games etc. I am all for teaching what ever my studenis will be using the most and what will help them with their daily lives. But what makes me sad is that I feel I will have to teach to a test and maybe the teaching of stats and what is best for my students on a daily basis is not coverd for the test. I am not teaching in a school, but do teachers feel this way, or am I out of touch?
The Lare Of Literacy C. January 30, 2013. I am excited to be back in the blogging world and hopefully 3 years later it is not as scary as it was when I first created a blog.
Daily Dirge
Dirge the Dragon is named after the literary term of the same name.
He will help and guide us along our journy to become "lares of literacy. I know I will need help because the concept of literacy is so vast, yet I crave to learn more to help me become a better lare! I have chosen Dirge the Dragon because one of my favorite all time songs is "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Pauk and Mary.
I really got to see energent literacy for the first time when I was teacher preschool at Riverside Methodist Church Child Care Center. This center has a special place in my heart because my parents were married here in 1963. (almost 5o years ago). It is also special because my grandmother helped start the preschool program here in 1948.
