I was reading the article titled "1o Simple Google Search Tips" and it brought me back some 12 years. I was substitute teaching and I was in the library and a teacher was working with her class. She mentioned search engine (not really even knowing what that meant at the time). All I heard her say was the word Google. I thought is was very strange. To think the word and the act of googling is common place now. It changed my thoughts of the internet. Before that word I did not know how to operate the internet and I thought I had to know every web address and it seemed to impossible for me...until that day. My research world changed with one word!!!!!!!
There were several ideas in this article that I know about already, such as , the time around the world, using it a spelling aid, etc. But the one that really caught my eye was the searching for specific document types. It mentioned how to look up a topic and find all the powerpoints are for this topic. I admit that I am ignorant, but how many diffferent document types are there? I thought I could use this feature for looking up powerpoints regarding the marine corps. So that is something that is new to me and can help me! The other feature that I learned was the exclude feature. The example given is looking up American Idol and excluding Simon Cowell from the searches. I REALLY LIKE THESE 2 and will use them!
